Kapil’s Devil

Heroes

As a true follower of the Gentleman’s game and a huge fan of Cricket as a whole, i dedicate this blog to the Men who made Indians a great force in World cricket and stunned everyone. 25 years ago on this day 25th June India suddenly became a huge force to reckon in ODIs. This World cup was a morale boosting one for the nation. The Indian team were the underdogs in the touanament. Not many would have expected them to even 3 out of its 6 league matches cos they had won only one match against the lowly ranked East Africa back in 1975. It din win a single match in the 79 WC. The team consisted of few all rounders(Kapil,Madan lal, Amarnath, Binny) , a technically sound opener in the form of Gavaskar, 2 dashers in the form of Patil and Shrikkanth. None of them were great heroes in ODI arena then. They played according to the mantra ” Where there is a will there is a way”. Kapil always insisted the team on fighting hard for sucess, which they achieved at last. The cup

it all started with the morale boosting victory over the two time defending champions West Indies on 9th june 1983 at Old trafford(ha ha this place has a special place in heart, Manchester united and OT(Old Trafford) rules). But India were then defeated by West Indies and Australians convincly in the league phase(but India got a sweet revenge over the latter in the other league game). Then came the day that the whole Indian squad witnessed whats called the “BEST INNINGS FROM AN INDIAN”. India struggling at some 17/5, an innings which can be termed as the perfect example for CAPTAINS KNOCK was played by Kapil Dev the chief architect of India’s victory. He scored a smashing unbeaten 175(Due to BBC camera crew strike this epic knock had no video coverage sadly) and the triggered the confidence in the Indian camp and with the help from the likes of Yashpal Sharma, Sandeep Patil, Jimmy Amarnath and others India went into the finals.

OT June 22: England won the toss and batted first.  the  Indian bowling England to score 213 (all out, 60 overs). Fowler (33 from 59 balls, 3 fours) top scored, and Kapil took 3 for 35 in eleven overs, with Jimmy and Binny taking two wickets each. In reply,  Yashpal (61 from 115 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) and Patil (51 from 32 balls, 8 fours) made half-centuries, as India reached their target in 54.4 overs, winning by 6 wickets in an upset victory over the Englishmen. Jimmy (46 from 92 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) picked up the man-of-the-match award for his all round performance, which saw him add 46 runs to his earlier bowling success (2/27 in 12 overs).

Final was played in the mecca of cricket The LORDS on june 25th. Roberts, Marshall, garner and Holding ripped through the Indian batsmen The Indians were bowled out for a low score of 183 and Shrikkanth scoring the highest individual score of 38 for the match. This total is nothing considering the Batting power of the Champions. But the agenda was take the fight to the opponent for the Indians and i can still not forget the ball that got rid of Greendige. Gem of a delievery. He left the ball expecting it to move away like the previous 3 balls but it swung in and took the bails. The great West Indian Viv Richards started to flourish with an array of powerful strikes. It took a stunning catch from the Indian captain to get rid of the great man and the man of the match Jimmy(in both semis and final) polished off the tail and the rest is history. the joy in the camp of Kapil’s Devil camp was great. However, the Indian bowling exploited the weather and pitch conditions perfectly to bowl out the best batting lineup of the era for 140 from 52 overs in return, winning by 43 runs and completing one of the most stunning upsets in cricket history, defeating the previously invincible West Indies.

The proud captain lifted te trophy with great joy and pride. In two years time India went on to win the world championship of cricket under sunil gavaskar. Let this inspire India to win more World cups.

I would like to end this blog by asking people to also support ICL, to which the greatest ever all rounder from India is commited. Those who play in ICL are not commiting any mistake. They are playing cricket which is their passion. Hope ICC and BCCI relaxes its stance soon. Kapil and the others associated with the ICL have a lot to offer for Cricket in India. Jai hind.

MUSIC- A changing Trend

with 7 comments

Marriages are really special and this has been a season marriages really. I have been attending a few marriages of my friends and relatives in the past month. All the stuffs that has been traditionally followed like performing poojas, tying the knot, warm welcome to the guests, of course the dinner were intact. One notable difference in 3 marriages that i recently attended was the one that like like the most. Thats the one thats sweeps through hearts of many people. Its nothing but the light music. Many or mostly all in the world would vote for hearing to music whenever they need peace of mind.  The 3 special occasions had 3 different kinds of Light music. First one had few singers singing film songs, second one had two girls singing carnatic songs( i cant understand a bit of it though) and the third one had just the instrumentals of few melodies from cinema played by a super orchestra.

Why i do stress upon the light music of 3 kinds?? As i mentioned earlier music is being heard by many for peace of mind. Relatives meet in these occasions after a long time. In present scenario people hardly find time to meet regularly and speak to each other. Sometimes these Music in occasions has been a disturbance to people who meet there. i am obviously not speaking about the second and third ones. Also sometimes people dont sing properly and music lovers gets irritated by that. One of my friends actually told me that songs that the pair liked were played using a player. I think this is a good one as the originality wont be lost and many would like it and also the carnatic concert and instrumentals could also be a good choice. What do u think friends??

Sorry if i had hurt the sentiments of any singers.

Save Me

"Save me" earth

Rising temperatures, unseasonal rainfall, people falling sick often, lack of water supply, increase in food prices, inflation surging above 8.1%……… The list of sufferings that people undergo go on and on and on. All these topics are crucial in all the political meetings. Blame game will be at its best. But the worst part of that is no body takes notice of discussing about one of the major issue which could solve many of the above mentioned problems. Its nothing but “Global Warming” and “Preserving Our Earth”. I have never heard or read anything serious regarding the ones i have mentioned recently. Just a coincidence June 5th happens to be Environment Day.

The following links may help u in understanding in what dangerous stage we are in:

I felt very happy when Chennai corp introduced about the separate disposal of Degradable and non-degradable waste. How far and how strictly its being followed??? I seriously doubt that. Even some of my neighbors don’t follow that and consider it a waste of time and money. Recent NDTV survey says 80% of the waste are Recyclable waste. But only 10% of that is being recycled. What a pity [:(]. Recently steps were taken to remove unauthorized ad boards in chennai and also throwing the waste and spitting in public has been made punishable offenses. Great steps taken. Y dont the government also make the separation of waste compulsory. Why not take more steps to create awareness among the people about Global Warming? Y not the planting of trees be taken strictly? Y not most of the roads if not all be the one like in Korattur full of trees?( Myself and my friend watson love traveling thro that road) Y is the government so lethargic about this?? GOK=”God Only Knows”. Hope we start planting more trees as they have planned in Brazil. Their target “One Billion Trees to be planted be4 2010“. Hope the rest of the world take them as an example and adopt AFFORESTATION. Save the world. Save the fellow creatures. Live and Let live. We Indians believe in Bhoomi Matha. Lets join hands and save her.

A Beautiful Moment

with 10 comments

She was very shy. Never spoke to me for a day. I tried my level best to make her comfortable. Gave her Chocolates, many other stuffs so that she will speak to me. But all my efforts went in vain. I stayed in her home for a day but she didn speak or even see me. Even her sister spoke well to me. Then i went with their family to a hotel for the dinner. She was very reserved and silent even in the hotel. Just ate the food that was ordered and kept quite. At last when i had to start back home from tambaram to perambur. I wished one and all over there and started after kissing one of the kids over there and then suddenly heard someone saying the following words to me ” Chittapa enakku??”

Actually i am talking about my cousins 2 and 1/2 year old child “Aishu”. She has just come from overseas. I dont know how to express the happiness that filled my heart at that moment. Many would be aware of the Thirukkural ” Kuzhal innidhu yazh innidhu enbar thanmakkal mazhalaichol kela davar” (mistakes if exist in the kural might please be forgiven). Thats absolutely true, the tender beautiful words uttered mesmerizes everyone and its the children who can take all your pressure. Their smile makes you forget ur worries infact whom u are. True God sent gift. Baby Day Out has never bored me and ll never. My plea to all readers is to save this beautiful world for those beautiful creatures on earth. Let them breathe the fresh air rather than the one that comes from the Air coolers.
